Discover the Flavours of France at Our Upcoming Virtual Cheese Tasting
08 July, 2026Discover the Flavours of France at Our Next Virtual Cheese Tasting
From the lush alpine pastures of the Jura to the sun drenched hillsides of the Pyrenees, France has long been celebrated as one of the world's great cheesemaking nations. Every region has its own traditions, terroir and unmistakable character, making French cheese one of the most diverse and fascinating categories to explore.
Join us for our next Virtual Cheese Tasting on the 17th July 2026 as we journey across France, discovering five exceptional cheeses that showcase the breadth of French cheesemaking. Guided by our expert cheesemongers, you'll learn about the history, production methods and unique flavour profiles of each cheese, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions along the way.
Whilst the focus of the evening is, of course, the cheese itself, many guests enjoy tasting alongside a carefully chosen drink. If you'd like to elevate the experience at home, we've put together a few suggested pairings. These are simply recommendations rather than requirements, so don't worry if you prefer to enjoy the cheeses on their own.
La Bouyguette
This beautifully delicate goats' cheese is wrapped in a chestnut leaf and tied by hand, offering fresh citrus notes alongside a gentle floral character.
Suggested alcoholic pairing: A crisp Sancerre or another dry Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Its lively acidity and notes of gooseberry and citrus complement the fresh, delicate flavours of the cheese beautifully.
Suggested non alcoholic pairing: A light chamomile tea mirrors the cheese's floral aromas without overpowering its subtle character.
Brie de Donge
Rich, buttery and wonderfully indulgent, Brie de Donge is a classic French soft cheese with a beautifully savoury finish.
Suggested alcoholic pairing: Champagne or a quality sparkling wine. The fine bubbles and refreshing acidity cleanse the palate between each luxurious bite.
Suggested non alcoholic pairing: Sparkling elderflower presse offers delicate floral notes and gentle effervescence, providing a refreshing contrast to the richness of the cheese.
Comté Androuet
A beautifully matured Comté with layers of roasted nuts, caramel and savoury complexity.
Suggested alcoholic pairing: A Belgian Dubbel. Its rich malt character and caramelised flavours echo the sweet, nutty notes found within the cheese.
Suggested non alcoholic pairing: A lightly roasted black coffee, particularly one with Ethiopian or Kenyan origins, highlights the cheese's natural sweetness and complexity in an unexpectedly delicious pairing.
Fleur d'Maquis
This Corsican ewe's milk cheese is coated in fragrant herbs, creating a buttery paste wrapped in wonderfully aromatic flavours.
Suggested alcoholic pairing: A classic Gin & Tonic. The botanicals and juniper beautifully complement the herb coated rind while the crisp finish refreshes the palate.
Suggested non alcoholic pairing: A lightly fruity kombucha offers floral notes, balanced acidity and gentle sweetness that work wonderfully alongside the herbaceous character of the cheese.
Fourme d'Ambert
One of France's great blue cheeses, Fourme d'Ambert is creamy, mellow and beautifully balanced with gentle blue veining.
Suggested alcoholic pairing: Mead is a surprisingly perfect match, with its rich honeyed sweetness balancing the salty, creamy character of the cheese. Serve chilled over a single ice cube.
Suggested non alcoholic pairing: Crisp pear juice provides natural sweetness and fresh acidity, creating a wonderfully harmonious pairing with this elegant blue cheese.
