Paxton & Whitfield has been the country's leading cheesemonger for over 200 years and today we continue to deliver exceptional artisan cheese, fine food, homewares and cheese experiences with unrivalled passion and expertise across our four UK retail stores as well as our rapidly growing online business and trade sales.

We are looking for cheese enthusiasts to join our teams, working as a cheesemonger on our iconic cheese counter as well as involvement in orders for mail order customers and e-commerce.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to expand their career within the artisan food and/or cheese world.

Cheese knowledge or experience is beneficial but not a requirement, you must be willing and able to work in a busy and fast-paced environment.

It’s beneficial if you have the following:

• Passion and knowledge about artisan cheese or fine food in general
• Experience of working in a customer facing role
• Positive outlook with plenty of initiative.

This can be either a full-time or part time role with weekend availability preferred. There may be opportunities to develop to a permanent position for the right candidate.

Job description

We're recruiting now for our busy Christmas season within a historic and innovative business based in our cheese maturing rooms in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire.

The Role

We are looking for enthusiastic staff with great energy, a passion for food and attention to detail to work in our cheese maturing rooms.

The successful applicants will perform a varied number of cheesemonger duties, fulfilling our customer's orders and ensuring that our high quality standards are met at all times.

The role includes:

· Learn about cheese, tasting it daily to ensure that the highest standard of quality is met.

· Cut, wrap and label cheese’s ready for dispatch to our e-commerce, and wholesale customers.

· Assist in the maturation of cheeses within our state of the art cheese rooms.

· Ensure that all products are cared for in a manner consistent with our food safety and quality procedures.

· Regularly check cheese stock to ensure its quality is superb, act if any issues noted.

· Assist in carrying out accurate stock takes.

· Ensure all areas of the cheese rooms are always clean and tidy.

· Ensure all Food Safety procedures and Health & Safety policies are always carried out.

Previous work in a food environment is desirable, but an interest in cheese and a passion for food is essential.

Full on the job training will be provided.

The successful applicant will perform a varied number administrative duties, fulfilling our customers orders and ensuring that our high quality standards are being met at all times.

Responsibilities include:

Processing customer orders along with delivery labels and gift messages, sorting orders, invoicing, data input & customer service.

Full on the job training will be provided.

Part time positions available.

Some weekend work will be required in December.
